About the Artists

Steve Rhude

"I haven't done a painting from the fact for years. Because I did not grow up in Nova Scotia I can't probe my memory to evoke and express in paint ideas that have now become central to my experience here. Instead, I choose to construct images using aspects favorable to my own sense of aesthetics, feelings observations. I simply can't create a painting unless the things and places I behold respond to something inside me."

Peter Waite

"Their physical modesty belies their psychological weight, while their intimacy, enhanced by the ways in which they are cropped, places the viewer on the scene, thinking about what it means to be in these places and the troubles most of them have seen." -- The New York Times
